Hi,

I'm going to NYC for 6 nights at the start of Sept. Whilst I have a guide book full of lots of things to do, does anyone have any firsthand suggestions of things to see and do, not covered by the guide books.

Thanks

If you want to take in a drink in a cool neighborhood, in a "secret" place, check out APT in the Meatpacking district.

There's no real sign - you have to look for the small APT etched into the wall above the entranceway, but it's really a nice place to have a cocktail away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding neighborhood.

I'm not sure it's really kept off the guidebook radar, but I've often caught great jazz and world music at the zinc bar in the west village. Its a small, walk-downstairs hole in the wall, if you don't mind close quarters while you hear great tunes on the cheap- its worth a visit.

New York is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City.
