February 12 2008: The Bay Tree Inn is pretty romantic, despite the attitude of the staff which fluctuated between brusque and downright rude.While the hotel is large, the rooms sprawl though a number of buildings, giving it a deceptively B&B feel. Our room was cozy and lovely. The bathroom was large and had full-size Molton Brown products--a nice perk.
Burford is a picturesque town and a great base from which to begin one's ramblings through the Cotswold's.

June 5 2008: Burford is a classic English village set among the rolling hills and patchwork fields of the Cotswolds region. Its main street is teeming with tourists on the weekends and trekking through the beautiful countryside is a favorite activity for visitors. The Bay Tree Hotel is a comfortable inn on a quiet lane just a block from the shops and pubs. The hotel is housed in a complex of adjacent stone buildings with a restaurant and a large garden out back. Our room was comfortable and included a surprisingly spacious bathroom with what I understand are very nice personal care products (Molton Brown).
I would have given this hotel a 4th star except that the hot water ran out in the middle of my shower on Saturday night. While I suspect that this may be a typical experience at inns in the English countryside, my heart has not yet thawed, especially considering the cost of lodging. Also, the service - or rather the attitude - at the reception desk varied from pleasant to brusque.
I would be happy staying at the Bay Tree again, but I would also like to check out other hotels in the Cotswolds.
