October 11 2007: The Modern-- the bar downstairs is lovely. the hotel itself is pretty spacious by NY standards.

Honest Hotel In Mahattan

December 11 2007: The Flatotel is honest- not too chic, not too trendy, not too noisy, not too big... just, honest. The rooms are on the smaller side, although nicely furnished. If I were asked to pay more than $250 for this hotel, I probably wouldn't, but then again the way rates are going in New York these days at $250 this might be a bargain...
Still, not luxury, not hip, restaurant is forgettable, bar is forgettable. Super-convenient location (Midtown next to the Sheraton, walking distance to Theatres and Times Square, a few blocks from the metro). For the same price, I would stay at the Parker Meridien, but this is a convenient second choice.
Best toiletries I have found in a hotel though- fantastic!
