Solid Hilton, but nothing special
Downtown, Modern, Nightlife, Business People, Events & Meetings, Singles, Tourists
December 5 2007: The Hilton Austin is everything you would expect from a 3-4 star hotel, but not spectacular in any one dimension.

Location -- Right next to the convention center, which is great if that's what you're there for.  It's also just a couple blocks from 6th St, and all the restaurants and bars -- so convenient for nightlife, while not necessarily being directly in the middle of it.  Also located very close to I-35 for easy highway access.

Rooms -- The rooms look recently renovated, with modern decor (for a national chain) and everything appeared well-kept.   Rooms were a moderate size -- not huge, but not tiny either.  I've heard complaints about paper-thin walls, but things were pretty quiet when I was there (and the hotel was sold out due to a convention).

Amenities -- The health club is definitely above average and in the same space as the spa -- two exercise rooms with plenty of treadmills, stairclimbers, weight machines, etc.  There's also a decent locker room and free towels.  However, like many Hiltons, they charge a day rate of $10 or so unless you are an elite Hilton Honors member.  Parking in the garage was a bit tough -- small spaces and seemed to be pretty full; plus at $15/night it seemed a bit pricey.  Executive lounge is on the 25th floor -- I thought it was a bit on the smaller size for a hotel this size, but there was nothing wrong with it.

Service -- I was very pleased with everyone I interacted with at the hotel.  Because the hotel was fully booked, I was given one of the last rooms left -- which turned out to be a smoking room.  I called down to the front desk complaining about the smokiness, and within 5 minutes there was someone at my room to spray it down.  Also, they called back about 5 minutes later to see if I was satisfied.

Overall, I'd stay at the Hilton again, either for business or pleasure.  It's a fairly new and modern business-oriented hotel in a good location.  However, if you're looking to save a few bucks, there are probably a few better values in the area.

This is the first review written about this hotelAugust 16 2007: Great location, walking distance to 6th street, Restaurants and Bars.  Rooms are large and comfortable, had a great view of the Capitol from my 17th floor room.  Was even able to check in early around 10:30am, depending on hotel occupancy rate it may not always happen.  The pool area was a great time, lots of young good looking people hanging out and socializing on the 6th floor rooftop pool/hot tub area.  The poolside bar was a great plus too.

Location, location, location -- and good service

May 15 2008: A great place to stay if you want to be within walking distance of Austin's bars, restaurants and - most importantly - Lake Austin for a  morning run.

Over the past few years I have stayed here on four or five occasions.  Since it's a new building everything is in great shape, the rooms are sleek and modern with limestone behind the bed headboard.  Service was quick and efficient and the staff are knowledgeable about places nearby.
