November 15 2007: This is a Hilton??? You've got to be kidding! This must have been the hippest, trendiest Hilton I've ever been at. I stayed here on business and picked it because of its location in the Gaslamp District. What I found, however, was a very pleasant surprise!Naturally, the location is fantastic -- right in the Gaslamp District. It's also next to the convention center and the train tracks (one thing to be aware of -- you may hear trains pass by at night).
When you walk it, you feel like you're staying at a modern, trendy boutique than at a Hilton. The lobby is very contemporary and tastefully appointed. This hotel also isn't very large -- so the lobby feels somewhat cozy as does the rest of the hotel.
The rooms themselves are very spacious and also modernly appointed. Nothing especially noteworthy -- just nice, clean, and contemporary. What else can you ask for?
Parking is pretty much valet only, but you can walk to anything in the neighborhood. There are plenty of shops and restaurants around. I only ate at the hotel for breakfast -- the food was fine, but the decor was perhaps too modern for it's own good (seats too big and too many pillows).
All in all, I really loved this hotel. It feels like you're still staying at a modern boutique, but you get the benefits of accumulating your Hilton points. The only minor complaint was the noise from the trains, but the location more than makes up for it. I'd definitely stay here again!
