Frequent US-domestic business traveler with a yen for the offbeat, boutique, and photogenic. Typically on the road 2-3 days/week to some of America's great second and third (sometimes fourth) tier cities.
July 11 2007: Big luxurious hotel on the edge of the bay. Great staff (except the business center folks were more than a little rude), very comfortable, with large rooms. Fitness center is under reconstruction (Summer 2007), but shoulld be back up by early fall. Lobby bar is a little too dark and they don't know what a Gin Fizz is, but the lobby is big and comfortable for semi-private meetings or Starbucks and surfing.
The area requires a cab ride to good restaurants and with the ample conference space is clearly geared toward business clientele. The concierge will try to steer you toward some of Miami's better restaurants. Take their advice -- they push the cuisine over the experience, but they'll send you to SoBe if you ask. Coral Gables is about 15 minutes away and has a multitude of great eats.
All in all, I was on business so it wasn't my tab. I'd stay there again on business, but after years in NYC, I don't need the crowds of SoBe to get a 'South Florida' experience.
Date of stay: April 2007

The InterContinental Miami soars 34 storeys from the heart of the city centre with contemporary flair that s pure Florida. Besides being in the centre of the business district, the hotel is close to the communities of South Beach, Miami Beach and Coral Gables, and attractions such as Bayside Marketplace, Miami Seaquarium and Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
