Lively, Not Budget, Not Luxurious, Not Romantic, Not Quiet, Not Scenic, Not For Business People
July 29 2007: More of a motel than a hotel. I got the feeling the "hotel" part was an after thought. They have night club, and figured they could make some extra $$ on the drunkards by offering them a room.
I had no major complaints. The noise usually quited it down by time we got in from OSCON and dinner. They had events every night of the week though, including weddings, sourceforge community awards, etc.
One benefit is that its only a few blocks away from the convention center. Close enough to walk, yet cheaper than the hotels immediately near the covention center.
February 3 2008: While this hotel is a re-done motel, it does have room service, and a great diner on site, the Doug Fir. Fantastic breakfasts, great lunches, craft beers on tap. The rooms are small, but modern. Some have kitchenettes. There is a nice outdoor hang-out area. Note, it can be loud, as there is music piped from speakers throughout the place, and the younger crowd tends to party till late...but just use the earplugs that are on your nightstand when you check in, along with another perc for adults only! Probably not where you want to take the kids, but for couples or singles with an open mind this is a fantastic find in Portland, east of the river. Special note, ALL of the staff were super nice and personable, which in this agent's opinion is priceless.
