I research and consult on the niche of travelers with disabilities. Research shows that the US portion of this market spends an average of $13.6 billion US annually (Open Doors Organization, 2002).
January 3 2008: The Luxor Hotel in Galleao Airpot in Rio was a fallback on a night when the owner of the condo I rented at Ipanema turned out not to be available by phone after my flight arrived late.
The drama increased after that - like getting picked up by the tourist police once I finally got settled in the condo and went down to a pay phone on the corner to tell a friend I was back in town.
But you don't want to know about that story. You're reading this to find out what appeal there is to this particular hotel.
Frankly, so am I.
Let's see. It's close to the airport. It doesn't have rugs to slow you down in a wheelchair. It's quiet. There are no air leaks coming in through the windows (because behind the full length curtain is more solid concrete wall!)
It was a safe, clean place to stay in a pinch.
