May 13 2008: Mandalay Bay would be considered a spectacular, massive and exciting casino resort if it were located anywhere but Las Vegas. Alas, it's on the Strip, where standards are a bit higher. This South Pacific-themed resort has most of what you want in a Strip resort, although despite some uniqueness (a giant wave pool, a shark exhibit), I found it lacking in charm.

It's fine as far as location -- it's on the south end of the Strip, but it offers easy access to Luxor, Excalibur and Tropicana. Gambling at Mandalay is a bit overpriced -- it acts like it's Caesars, with its $25 minimum bet tables, but if I wanted that I'd have gone to Caesars.

This is the first review written about this hotelNovember 19 2007: Stayed at the Mandalay Bay for the first time and must say it is among the three or four top hotels in Las Vegas with all the amenities and facilities these monster palaces are known for.

The service was very good from a speedy check-in to the express check-out.

Had what I consider an excellent room compared to the cookie cutter rectangulars we are so used to check-in to.

It was of a good size with an angular layout and flat panel LCD, a writing desk and lounger. Very comfortable overall. Bathroom had a jacuzzi with separate shower stall and toilet.

My business partner was upgraded to a suite which was huge and had two separate large bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms with a very big living area in between. Excellent.

November 25 2007: Normally you would think "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," well, this time I'll let you in on our experience. Vegas was its usual wild and crazy self. Eight of us decided to go in on a suite at Mandalay Bay. The hotel and casino is beautiful (smells great too), but since there was a boxing fight at the casino on our Saturday night, we didn't get the suite we thought we were booking online. The suite we did get was nicely appointed, but didn't have enough beds for all of us. We quickly called the front desk and had two roll-aways delivered. But when you're in Vegas, it's not really about the room... The highlight of Mandalay Bay was by far The Bathouse Spa at The Hotel. You must treat yourself if you're ever there. The pool is pretty incredible too. There's a "beach" and even a wave pool. Our weather was a bit dicey the first two days, but our last two were spent enjoying the pool. If you're looking for fun in Vegas, definitely look to Mandalay Bay.
