December 20 2007: The Omni is a classy hotel with that touch of luxury and ambiance that you would expect to pay a lot more for. It’s not cheap, but also not outrageous and I found it to be a great place for a romantic getaway.

The hotel is fairly self-contained, with everything you might need conveniently located on the property. It sits right on a lake providing quiet relaxing views and opportunity to walk around beautifully landscaped grounds. Also, the pool is down near the lake offering great views from the deck area.

The lake itself is also home to ducks and several swans. Down near the lake, sort of hidden near one end of the hotel property is a pen where a couple of them stay – at least the times we were there, which tended to be in the fall or winter. They are pretty to look at, but will nip at you getting too close.

I like the rooms on the higher floors best as the large windows afford terrific views across the lake or toward the city of Dallas. The décor is attractive, the rooms are big, and the king bed extremely inviting and comfortable. They also have the extra amenities and frills you would expect like bathrobes and chocolates.

Choosing where to eat can be a challenge, as you can’t make a wrong choice. Trevi’s in the hotel is terrific, but just across the street is Café Cipriani, which also has fine dining. A bit further down is the Texas Bar & Grill with the best burgers you’ll find anywhere, and a block away is the Mustang Grill.

Inside the hotel is a huge lounge area with chairs and sofas spread around where small groups or couples can gather by themselves. There’s piano music and soft lights in the evening with lake views out the mostly glass back wall looking out to the water. It’s perfect for drinks or even a bite to eat.

There is a small amount of shopping nearby, but the area is mostly commercial office buildings, apartments, condos, and loft type living. It’s much more conducive to enjoying walks along the well-planned canals and paths laid out around the lake.

This is the first review written about this hotelJuly 26 2007: I live in Dallas, and stayed here for a 1-night getaway with my boyfriend.  Parking is in a garage - and free!  Check-in was very quick and easy, with virtually no one else in the lobby.  When they asked if there was anything else they could help us with, I asked if they had something for my splitting headache.  Despite the fact that the gift shop was closed for the night, they opened it up for us and brought some Advil to the room with no charges whatsoever!

The room itself was pretty large and tastefully decorated.  Unfortunately, Irving isn't the most scenic of locales in the DFW metroplex, so even though we were on one of the top floors, the view was pretty lackluster.

Breakfast was included in the special package we had booked.  Normally $15, the buffet included a custom egg station, breads, fruit, meats, hot/cold cereals and on and on.  We were both pleasantly surprised by the consistently spot-on service and ease of everything, from check-in to check-out.  They even accomodated us with a late check-out of 2 pm!  I will definitely be back.
