June 19 2007: If you are looking for a fine hotel in the city consider the Peninsula. The rooms have adequate space, are nicely appointed, and are wired extremely well. From the bedstand one can control all lights, audio/video equipment and the temperature. It sounds a little gimicky but it really contributes to one's overall comfort.
The bars and restaurants are what you'd expect from a very expensive hotel, the service is excellent and the location can't be beat. The health club is sufficient to get a quick work out and the top-floor pool is terrific. I did not have time to enjoy the spa but am looking forward to doing so on my next visit.

Location. Located amid Fifth Avenue's high end shops in New York, N.Y., The Peninsula New York is a 1905 Beaux Arts landmark positioned two blocks from the Museum of Modern Art. The Broadway Theater District begins three blocks from the hotel. Hotel Features. A glittering chandelier presides over the lobby's sweeping double staircase. An adjacent seating area features richly woven silk wall treatments while a second area reveals trompe d'oeil sky painted ceilings. Fives restaurant showcases fine Mediterranean inspired cuisine and "Naturally Peninsula" light and healthy fare. The intimate Bar at Fives overlooks the street scene, specializes in traditional and creative martinis, and hosts piano entertainment. The Salon de Ning bar affords spectacular top floor city views from indoors or from the furnished terrace. The library themed Gotham Lounge serves afternoon tea, cocktails and light fare. Wireless Internet access is complimentary throughout the hotel. Newly renovated, the fitness center features cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Personal training sessions may be scheduled with 48 hour notice. Hair care and beauty services are available at the Mélange Salon. Professional massage therapy may be requested in the guestrooms.
Guestrooms. This 23 story property offers 239 guestrooms and suites decorated in contemporary style with Art Nouveau accents. Beds include pillowtop mattresses, 450 thread count Fili d'Oro linens, and goose down pillows and duvets. Bedside control panels regulate air conditioning, lighting, an entertainment system, and "do not disturb" displays. Marble bathrooms feature televisions mounted over the bathtub. Rooms contain minibars and honor bars. Complimentary in room safes are laptop compatible.
Expert Tip. The hotel's Silver Spoon program offers concierge customized "Tucker Out the Toddler" care for children ages two to six, and iconic New York tours and activities for children ages seven to 14. Activities include VIP passes to local attractions and backstage access to Broadway shows. All children who participate in the program receive a complimentary Tiffany & Co. silver spoon engraved with the child's initials.
