October 1 2007: I have stayed at the W in Westwood in LA twice. Good location; usual Starwood amenities for business travelers. The last time I stayed there, I showed up at 1AM, and there was a velvet rope and a bouncer in front of the place. I went into the bar to get a drink (double scotch) and it cost $64.95. They did put me in a massive suite because it was the only room available. Probably a great place for a batchelor party or whatever, but a bit much for a bedraggled business traveler.

Location. The W Hotel Los Angeles Westwood is located in Los Angeles, Calif. Built in 1969 as a University of California Los Angeles dormitory, the hotel was converted to a hotel in the 1980s, and then renovated in 2000. This 16 story structure sits amid a residential block on a magnolia lined street and is three blocks from the University of California Los Angeles campus. Getty Museum is less than one mile from the hotel. This pet friendly location is one and one half miles from Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. Hotel Features. A marble and waterfall staircase greets the guests at the entrance to the W Hotel Los Angeles Westwood. The Living Room, an L shaped lobby, promotes a retro style décor through use of low sofas, bold colored pillows, glass tables, protracted benches and bamboo. NineThirty serves American cuisine within a serene environment. Decorated in bright colors and bamboo, the W Backyard overlooks two acres of vibrant flora while providing guests an American menu. Appetizers, light fare and cocktails are provided adjacent to the Living Room lobby in Whiskey Blue. The hotel provides a mezzanine level lap pool and a heated outdoor splash pool surrounded by cushioned lounge chairs. The 24 hour fitness facility showcases cardiovascular and weight training equipment. Bliss spa offers 10 treatment rooms, and massage and boutique services.
Guestrooms. The 258 guestrooms at the W Hotel Los Angeles Westwood feature mahogany furniture and double sofas. Standard amenities include CD players, VCRs, DVD players, 27 inch televisions and video game consoles. Wireless Internet access is available for a fee. Guestrooms feature coffeemakers and minibars.
