May 12 2008: Balmers is quite an experience. Cheap, Hostel rooms, 6 to a room, not super clean and kind of small. Hostel locks everyone out for 6 hours during the day to encourage people to hike/do activities and cut down on theft. Night club, kitchen, pool room, all one site. Close to town to go grocery shopping or shopping for goodies. Can go skydiving, canyoning, hiking up to the top of Shliterhorn- lots of beautiful bike riding, canoeing, and beautiful scenery.Would definitely go back! So much to do and the scenery is gorgeous. One of the most beautiful places to hike in the world! Glaciers are there all year round- you can ski in the summer.
Good for backpacking Europe on a budget!
