This is the first review written about this hotelNovember 18 2007: The taxi driver set the bar high when he said the Adlon was, "zee nicest hotel een Berlin." And I was not disappointed. Currently celebrating 100 years of stately luxury, the Adlon has aged well.

My friend and I, in town for the Berlin Art Fair, lived it up in a newly refurbished wing of the hotel. Our suite had two flat-screen TVs, an electric fireplace, cut flowers, and a chilled bottle of the house champagne. Nice touch.

The bathroom shower features a steam button that probably affects nothing from a beautifying point of view, but is nonetheless impossible not to push before each shower. The regular-sized bath products from Molton Brown make great stocking stuffers for unsuspecting friends and family who will be touched by your largess.

The hotel's unimaginatively named "Gourmet Restaurant" is actually delicious. I was quite distraught to finish the perfectly cooked venison.

After all of that hard work pushing buttons, cracking the room's safe and lounging on various pieces of furniture, we decided a massage was in order. The spa has an indoor pool and many beauty treatments on offer. My one complaint is that the route to the spa is very poorly marked, especially when traveling from the opposite hotel wing. Shuffling in bathrobes and slippers through the busy lobby at high noon, we eventually found it.

Since one can only take but so much decadence, the next night we dined at the charming Mao Thai, a good choice. We tried to get reservations at Restaurant Vau, but that proved impossible. Our very large, very Teutonic concierge actually giggled when we asked him to secure us a table, which makes me think eating there must be quite a coup.

The hotel is very expensive. Is it worth it? It was for me, but then again, my friend expensed it.

June 5 2008: This hotel has quite a history.  From it's origin, to being used as a hospital in WWII, burning after the war, to it's now luxurious rebirth.  This hotel has everything you can imagine.  Great location, fantastic new spa, very clean and comfortable rooms.  Extremely professional staff.

The Business Man's "perfect" Hotel

December 19 2007: The Adlon is one of my favorites.  The service is flawless, the rooms have every amenity possible including radiant heat in the bathroom floor making wintry strolls without slippers cozy.

The phones go with you in Hotel making missed calls a thing of the past.  The spa is great from exercise and also pampering, the restaurant has the best breakfast in Europe and I never start a day without that breakfast.

I rate this as one of my favorites in the world.
