Downtown, Sightseeing, Backpackers, Tourists, Not Luxurious, Not Romantic, Not Hip, Not For Honeymooners
May 11 2008: The Hotel Du Nord is perfectly acceptable for a few nights in Copenhagen. It's not fancy by any means but as long as your needs are fairly simple, it works. It is centrally located 2 blocks from the train station, and it has clean rooms with good-sized en suite bathrooms. There is hard-wired internet access and a guest computer that you can use for free. A cold breakfast of cereals, meats, cheeses, etc is included in the room price. Also, the staff is really friendly. There is some street noise so ask for a quiet room and also make sure to request a non-smoking room. There are a lot of hotels in this area which all seem pretty much equivalent - a couple Comfort hotels and the Norlandia are next door. I wouldn't take a girlfriend here if you're looking for a romantic retreat but if you just want a standard hotel for a decent price and from which you can prowl the city on foot, the Du Nord is fine.
