I was nervous prior to arriving. Especially when the taxi driver couldn't find the hotel. Then when we found it, the taxi wasn't able to drive all the way to the front door so we were "dumped" in the plaza and the driver said "down that direction" pointing into a long alley.
Well it wasn't an alley. It was a old street in the Gothic Quarter and the hotel was only one of the many discoveries we made during the stay.
The hotel is an old palace. From the moment you step inside the cool lobby you feel as though you've arrived somewhere no one else knows about but everyone would want to stay. I had been a bit nervous about it only having so few rooms but my fears of a small room vanished when we walked into what must have been the master suite. The bedroom had 20 foot high hand painted ceilings, a low comfortable bed, older antique furniture, and one of the coolest bathrooms I've ever seen in a hotel.
Hotel Neri is less than a block from the old Cathedral and only a few street away from Las Ramblas, Paseo de Gracia, and all of the other incredible sites of Barcelona's old city.
If you want to experience the romance of Barcelona you have to stay at this place.
Date of stay: October 2005
