This is the first review written about this hotelJanuary 2 2008: This hostel was straight up a lot of fun.  There was music (often someone playing a guitar but if not, at least a radio ) at all hours in the lounge area, there was a lot of alcohol (but not to the extent where people were falling over or where you would feel awkward if you weren't drinking), and most people there were very social and great to talk to.  If you're looking for a quiet place, this really isn't the place to stay (although, the actual sleeping rooms are pretty quiet).  It's generally pretty lively and a big part of its appeal.  Barcelona is just too much fun to not be out late enjoying the nightlife! The hip interior design of the hostel itself adds to the atmosphere.  There are great photos throughout the lounge area and a huge mural on one of the walls of downtown Barcelona.

On top of the great personality, the hostel also offers really nice services such as a fairly sizable included breakfast and FREE wirless and wired internet.  The latter was awesome as we caught up on emails and found directions to our next destination; the expensive internet at cafes and other hostels in Europe got old pretty fast so this was a very welcome change.  The rooms are plain and for the most part dorm like (with anywhere from 4-20 beds in the same room) but we didn't have any problems with it; they give you lockers next to your bed so you don't have to worry about your stuff getting stolen.

Besides the liveliness, the other big thing the hostel has going for it is its great location.  Located in Plaça Reial (a quaint, those sometimes noisy and crowded plaza in the middle of Barcelona), you're literally about 20 feet from Las Ramblas, the main strip of Barcelona.  Turn the corner after walking out the hostel's front door and you're in the middle of all the restaurants and shops you'll need.  Additionally, you're only a few blocks from most of Gaudi's buildings and maybe a half mile from the famous Sagrada Familia.  The Park Guell, another can't miss Gaudi masterpiece is a bit further away (a couple of miles) though walkable (we did it).  The Dali museum is a lot of fun as well and again, only a few blocks away.  The final piece of its location based greatness is that it's only a few blocks from the beach!  Seriously, it's a perfect location.

All in all, this hostel is a can't miss, as is the city of Barcelona itself.  I'm itching to get back as soon as I can.  While this isn't right for those looking for quiet, business, or family-friendly atmosphere, for everyone else, don't pass up a chance to stay here!
