Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai

April 24 2008: Several of the people I work with stayed at this hotel while they were visiting on business in Mumbai.  The price was very expensive in my opinion but there are very few good options for business travelers accustomed to certain comforts.

One of the ladies who went on the trip said that the Taj Mahal was lovely overall.  A guest staying in the older section of the hotel may find themself in a gorgeous room with phenomenal views, or could find themselves in a mediocre room with poor views.  The new tower section is not as elegant as the older section, but she said there was a higher degree of consistency there with regard to room style/condition.

As to the staff I would give them mixed reviews.  I found it extremely difficult to connect with the right person and could never get confirmation on any arrangements.

For example, their concierge service will arrange for chauffeur driven cars for guests.  Although I sent a fairly concise list of when we needed cars it took me two faxes, a dozen emails and three phone calls to firm up these arrangements.  Fortunately, all did go according to the plan.  The traveling guests from my company felt that they received good customer service.

April 15 2008: The Taj Mahal is a grand hotel and seems the place to stay in Mumbai.  It has a full business center, good travel desk, and a full fitness center.  The Taj is really two hotels: the older original hotel and the newer tower.  I recommend the tower rooms, which are more modern and consistent.  The tower rooms are also less expensive than the decent rooms in the old hotel.
