Quiet, Scenic, Shopping, Sightseeing, Business People, Tourists
July 29 2007: I have to say one of my main criteria for hotels is ambiance - specifically charming and historic if possible. This hotel had very nice clean, modern rooms with comfortable beds, nice linens and everything the average business traveler would come to expect with their room, including the nondescript furnishings.
For a hotel built in an historic palazzo it has been modernized such that is has lost almost all of the unique charm and individuality you would want as a cultural tourist. The two redeeming qualities of this hotel were the location (in 7 days we only took paid transportation once when we went to the opera and I couldn't walk on the cobbled streets in my heals) and the view from the room. We had a small little balcony which looked out over the back courtyard of the Piazza next door - it had fruit trees and huge magnolia and several of the lounging cats of Rome.
I would stay here again for the basic quality of the room, just not for the lack of a unique or charming experience.
Superbly located in the heart of Rome, a few steps from the characteristic Trastevere quarter, the Tiber River and the historic via Giulia street, the Hotel Ponte Sisto welcomes you to one of the most beautiful corners of the capital. The concept of elegant décor, combined with the most modern comforts make the 4 star Hotel Ponte Sisto an ideal Rome accommodation choice for discerning travellers seeking a magnificent location topped by Italian hospitality and service. Exceptional on-site features include a splendid panoramic terrace overlooking the artistic marvels of Rome, a bar, a restaurant (available to groups only), and meeting facilities, designed to create an intimate yet elegant atmosphere. Furthermore, a wired Internet Point and wireless Internet access (in the meeting rooms) are available at the Hotel Ponte Sisto.
