July 21 2007: If you come to Oslo for business or a short weekend break, the Thon Hotel Opera is a highly convenient option, located right out of the city central train station connected via fast trains to Oslo Gardermoen airport. You can literally walk from your room to the check-in gate of the airport train!In my humble opinion, all hotels in Oslo are grossly overpriced. This hotel is still not cheap but at least reasonable value for money. The single rooms are barely bigger than an oversized closet, but very well equipped. Ask for a harbour view room if possible.
Service is efficient, Scandinavian style and the buffet breakfast comprehensive. This hotel seems to be successful at organizing evens and conventions, so beware of finding it utterly fully-booked - make your reservation in advance.
One tip about transportation in Oslo - avoid taxis, they are the worst rip-off I have seen! The bus system is cheap and convenient with a tourist information point in front of the train station.
