When you drive up to this Hilton, it really doesn't look like much. In fact, it may even seem a bit run down and dated, but what lies inside is quite surprising. The rooms (at least the one I stayed in) have been recently renovated in very modern and contemporary decor ... and not the traditional Hilton or big hotel chain type of contemporary. This actually had some character.
I was upgraded to a suite, so the room itself was huge -- high beamed ceilings, studio or loft-like feel with open living room next to the bedroom. There was a large sliding door that opened out onto a patio, with a walkway down to the beach. If I were just a few rooms down, I would have had a direct view out onto the beach.
Unfortunately, I got in late and was here on business, so I didn't get a chance to enjoy the facilities. However, I did have breakfast at the hotel restaurant ... food was decent, but what was best was the outdoor patio that looked right out onto the beach and water.
The location itself is somewhat isolated, but what you get in return is some nice quiet beachfront. It's convenient enough to the highway that it only takes a few minutes and it's short drive to downtown San Diego.
Overall, I really enjoyed the rooms here and would have loved it if I had more time to enjoy it ... or if I weren't here on business. I would definitely give it another try ... but leave more time next time to enjoy the place.
