This is the first review written about this hotelJune 11 2007: Fantastic, hip urban experience just off of Union Square in San Francisco.  Fantastic Cuban fusion restaurant and a very cool bar on the 1st floor.  Expensive but worth the splurge.  Walking distance to the big department stores, fancy art galleries, and museums such as the MOMA.

Hip, Lively, Stylish
May 7 2008: Teenage daughter and I stayed one night while returning to No. Cal. Arrived after dark, met at door by attentive, nice looking bellmen. Traveling with friends who immediately wished they had made a reservation here, too. Escorted inside and was impressed with service and ambience. Room was clean, comfortable, modern decor with silk drapes and a lovely lavendar throw on the chair. Bathroom reminded me of Hearst Castle, lots of tile, tall ceilings, stately appearance. Starbucks and Walgreens across the street, also a nice pastry shop nearby. Taxi's outside, easy to summon for business. Had a room next to elevator, could hear elevator operating. Still, a great experience, just ask for a room away from elevator.

Where to Celebrity Spot in San Francisco
Downtown, Hip, Modern
March 12 2008: In downtown San Francisco a short walk from the cable cars and the shopping district of SF (Union Square) the hotel has an outstanding bar called the Redwood room, where the entire bar looks like its been made from one giant redwood tree (it's not, but so goes the lore). Portraits whose faces shift slightly and sporadically add to the fun of this place.

It's easy to pick on a place that has expensive martinis and the "dressed up on a Wednesday night" crowd, but hey, I saw Jessica Biel there and got to have drinks with her and her friends - way cool and she was super nice.

The rooms are a bit small, but the location is great, and on a weekend night, when its near impossible to find a table to sit with your friends, having a room at the hotel means they will reserve a table for you - a big, big plus.

Also saw Mayor Willie Brown here, but that's a different story... If you're in the mood for something swanky, try this place in SF out. There's really nothing quite like this up here (small slice of LA in SF?).

One thing - depending on the bartender, you may want to pay in cash just to avoid any unintended "tips" when you get your credit card statement.
