This is the first review written about this hotelApril 9 2008: You can experience a relaxing beach getaway without breaking the bank here

We snagged a room with views of the SB harbor and the beach for about 250. A pretty good rate for a beach front hotel in So Cal. Our room was about 200+ sq feet which had a very comfy king bed with some pretty amazing pillows. It was bright, clean and had a charming beach cottage feel. The room had Aveda products and cozy luxe robes to lounge in

A nice flat screen tv with pay per view and an ipod docking station. They offer free wi-fi in the lobby but I am not sure if there is a fee for use in the room, we did not use the net on our stay.

There is a pool with cabanas, which was pretty great and very clean. They have many cozy outdoor terraces through out the hotel. Has beautiful tropical foliage and well manicured grounds. It was pretty quiet in the evenings so we were able to leave our patio doors open.

A short walk to many shops, galleries and some great dining. We did not really eat at the Oceana b/c there were so many great places to try in town. But pretty good coffee :)

It is a great little hotel for families and couples. I strolled thru the spa and it looked and felt lovely but I did not indulge in any treatments. A nice spa menu with prices that looked on par w/ most spas. The fitness center was pretty great but neither one of us indulged in this amenity.

There is so much to do in SB so I promise that if it is your first visit there, you will not be bored or disappointed. Many water sports and whale/dolphin watching cruises for the kids etc. The concierge will be most helpful with ideas and suggestions for places to see.

We indulged in surfing, wine tours, SB zoo and SB Botanical gardens as well as some rock climbing - a must for the 'active thrill seekers' The hotel actually has little vouchers/coupons for certain excursions and activities so be sure to inquire at front desk.

The hotel has bikes on lend for your enjoyment - best way to go when you are cruising the little town. Parking can be a bit of a pickle on weekends.

If you live in So Cal - I would also rec taking the train to SB, it is a lovely ride along the Pacific Coast.

It was a lovely hotel and I look forward to going back in the near future.

May 7 2008: Stayed one night while visiting colleges along coast. Old mission style buildings, tidy exteriors, lovely landscaping. Great patio outside room with direct view of ocean across the street, surrounded by lush lawn and colorful bouganvilla. Enjoyed a glass of wine and conversation while people/nature watching. Room interior was cute but not clean. Terribly soiled carpets (no excuse for this), stained headboard and bedskirt, hole in sheet. Traveling with wife of a builder, their room was the same condition. Refrigerator in room, high end toiletries, nice continental bkfst at hotel. Needs work on room interior. Could be so much more. Would stay agin if undergoes needed changes.
