February 22 2008: The Mandarin Oriental was as expected - high quality.  I will say this was the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.  I am definitely going to be calling these guys before I buy my next mattress!

I was here for the Master's Program, the corporate travel conference, so we got a great rate for the room.

The room was great - fantastic bathrooms with huge marble shower, big powerful showerhead, nice amenities, huge mirrors, and all the other things you'd expect from the Mandarin.

The bar was nice - I enjoyed some sushi one night and a Kobe burger the next.  The sushi was good, the burger was a tad dry for my taste, but nice.

The hotel is wonderfully appointed, and has nice views from the lobby and the room (I think it was the Jefferson Memorial, but not sure).

They offer valet parking, and the front desk staff was courteous and efficient.

The conference facilities here for us were perfect.  This is a great place to have your next event.  The staff took great care to make sure that we were well attended to, and the audiovisual equipment and conference room were top notch.

I would recommend this more for business travelers than leisure travelers, but good for both.

One frustration was the $15 daily charge for Internet access, although it was wireless.

First Class in DC
Downtown, Luxurious, Spa, Museums, Sightseeing, Business People, Tourists
This is the first review written about this hotelJanuary 8 2008: We had a great family getaway for our party of 5 at the Mandarin Oriental in DC.  It is first class.  Overlooking Potomac and Jefferson Memorial.  3 blocks from Smithsonian and capital mall/green.  Located at end of Maryland Avenue with very easy/quiet curbside access.

Hotel facility is super nice.  Rooms are spacious with nice amenities. Bathrooms in particular are large and very nice with marble showers and granite countertops.

Service was excellent (front desk, bellman, doorman, restaurants).  Both concierges that we dealt with seemed a bit out of it.  We we were asking about restaurants and tea shops, and the first concierge was pointing out McDonalds on the map (??), and then he kept mentioning kids menus (our kids don't eat chicken fingers or hot dogs ... they eat what we eat).  We ate at Cafe Mozu in the hotel for breakfast and dinner.  Breakfast was fine (the expected american buffet), and dinner was really good.  We ate dinner out as well at Restaurant Nora ... if you have not eaten at Nora, it is one of the best anywhere (www.noras.com).

Spa is high end, complete with a decent sized indoor, heated pool.  Fitness center is good.

This hotel is also excellent for business travel and business meetings.  I host an annual meeting of approx 200 people here, and I have hosted small meetings too.  Right across the river and very convenient to Washington National Airport DCA.

MO D.C. is hot!
Downtown, Luxurious, Modern
July 8 2008: The rooms are apppointed with all that one would expect of one of the priciest hotels in D.C.  Even the room service was yummy.  My company was hosting a conference there, and the programming was flawless.  For personal travel, however, I'm not sure if this is most bang for your buck.
