I prefer a combination of activity (hiking, jogging, swimming) on vacation, relaxation (reading), and good meals. Small hotels are preferable to big chains and historical settings are ideal.

July 11 2007: This neat hotel doubles as an art gallery with rotating modern works. The art we saw was racy - not family friendly, but that's not their audience. A very hip and well executed downtown hotel in a great old part of Louisville across from a public park. Downtown Louisville is being revitalized thanks to cool places like 21c.
The restaurant/bar is an extension of the hotel and art gallery. The food was wonderful - a southern flair but not greasy. The bar has potential to be quite a singles/professional scene due to the location.
The Louisville Slugger factory tour is nearby, as is Humana (corp HQ) if you have a business meeting there.

Location. The 21c Museum Hotel is located in historic downtown Louisville, Ky., within two blocks of the Muhammad Ali Center and the Louisville Slugger Museum. The Kentucky International Convention Center, the Louisville Science Center and Fourth Street Live are within one half mile of the hotel. Hotel Features. The 21c Museum Hotel features 9,000 square feet of exhibit space that showcases contemporary 21st century art. Artwork can also be viewed in the hotel's on site restaurant, Proof on Main, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Specializing in American cuisine with a Tuscan influence, menu items include Pan Roasted Onaga Snapper, Divers Scallops and Pan Roasted Pork Chop. A late night bar menu and room service is available. Complimentary high speed wired and wireless Internet access is offered in the hotel's 24 hour business center. Over 8,000 square feet of meeting space is available for meetings and events. The hotel's fitness center features a sauna, steam room and spa services, including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy.
Guestrooms. The smoke free property includes 90 guestrooms decorated with poster art that is available for sale. Complimentary high speed Internet acces, 42 inch flat screen televisions and iPods are included. Beds feature 500 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and nightly turndown service.
