I prefer a combination of activity (hiking, jogging, swimming) on vacation, relaxation (reading), and good meals. Small hotels are preferable to big chains and historical settings are ideal.
June 16 2007: The Windsor Court is an old, fancy New Orleans hotel with the amenities you need. Rooms are a nice size - couch, desk, comfortable bed, foyer. Traditional decor and good service (desk answers all night, room service, etc available). It is a walk to the French Quarter and tourist boating activities, which suits if you want to check it out but not be surrounded by inebriated kids. A mall and other shopping is also walking distance. Across the street from a huge Harrahs. Gym is so-so. Bathrooms are so-so (need to be remodeled).

Active empty nest baby boomer. My husband and I enjoy gardening, the great outdoors, and of course travel! Prefer destinations with casual elegance away from hustle and bustle.
July 30 2008: Before Katrina, the Windsor Court was the place to stay in New Orleans. Today, I am looking forward to seeing the hotel return to its polished form. As a former New Orleans resident, I am cheering for their success! The first thing I noticed on a return visit is that the staff is really trying to please. The rooms are large and lovely. I usually stay in a suite so it is spacious and well appointed. My room showed evidence of fatigue, but not enough to make a big difference. I love having a sitting room and space to spread out. And I like having a hotel that is pleasant to be in - not just for sleeping. I had breakfast sent to the room. Room service includes white table cloths, silver coffee service, fresh flowers. My husband and I did have dinner one night at the hotel. Both service and food left us 'wanting'. Wait staff is not as it should be, inefficient and erred, but we were willing to overlook some things knowing that they are trying to get things to pre-Katrina standards. bottom line - we will continue to support this hotel because New Orleans needs it.
