January 14 2008: I had to visit the textile companies near the GA/TN border for work. Instead of opting for a Hampton in or something small and close, I stayed here. It was WELL worth the extra few miles. I only wish I could've stayed a bit longer and explored the city. The hotel is old, but has been thoroughly updated, so you get modern conveniences and a historic location!
Date of stay: December 2005
Purpose of stay: Business
Frequent US-domestic business traveler with a yen for the offbeat, boutique, and photogenic. Typically on the road 2-3 days/week to some of America's great second and third (sometimes fourth) tier cities.
July 11 2007: Well-located downtown proximate to the Tennessee Aquarium (definitely a good stopover) and good restaurants. Located in an historic bank building (most of the rooms are in a modern wing), the Read House was a welcome alternative to the curse of Hampton Inns that otherwise dominate the area.
Nice rooms with free wifi, newly renovated (2006?) with very comfortable furniture and room sizes. Fitness center is appropriately sized and the pool is perfect for business travelers.
Very good stay, and worthwhile if you go to Chattanooga.

Located in downtown Chattanooga on the trolley line, this Chattanooga landmark hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Read House is known for its Georgian architectural style and Southern charm. The quarter sawed English walnut paneling, old fashioned drop mailboxes and elevator dials, and terrazzo poured marble floors give the lobby a stately feel. The hotel is located across the street from a downtown shuttle stop, where a free shuttle carries guests from the Tennessee Aquarium to the Chattanooga Choo Choo and other attractions. All guestrooms are elegantly appointed and designed to meet guests' every need with the utmost discretion and taste. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available in all common areas; room service and a self serve business center are also available. An indoor pool with cascading waterfall can be found alongside the enclosed courtyard and terrace. A state of the art workout facility and spa help are also available. The hotel includes Porter's Steakhouse, which provides guests with 24 hour in room dining upon request. There is also a Starbucks located off the lobby.
