FROM

The resort is large and all-inclusive with a wide variety of activities (swimming, tennis, golf, skiing, ice-skating). In addtion, if you are looking for more exotic activities you can always try your hand at falconry or shooting skeet.
There are several on site restaurants, the main one being the main dining room that is home to a great brunch and dinner with dancing. The food is as good as you'd expect, considering there are several hundred guests staying there at once.
Our room was fine- it had be refurnished within the last 5 years, I'd say, but it wasn't my any means modern. The bathroom was really small but we did enjoy a nice porch.
If you want to experience a traditional old fashioned mountain resort, this is the place for you. It is also very kid-friendly, with an entire kids program that is designed to keep kids busy and happy all day.

overall we have been coming to Homestead for over twenty years. a few things we have learned.
1. Stay in the Tower (better rooms than "garden" or new wing)
2. Look for the deals
3. if you shoot then do thier sporting clay course, if you do not shoot then take a lesson at the gub club
4. go Bowling
5. Hike, but not too much
6. Skiing okay, but golf fantastic, and massage after golf even better
7. wake up and go to the "hot spring" it is soothing and free
8. Eat too much
9. Play chess in the lounge room
10. Play pool after dinner and have a night cap
11.

The Homestead offers a pleathora of activities for honeymooners and families alike. My wife and I have visited twice, once in the winter and once in the fall. I would recommend choosing a time that matches the activities your prefer - golf and tennis or skiing and ice skating.
Although remotely located, with no nearby town, this is one place where you will not run out of things to do during any time of year. The standard offerings include three championship golf courses, a small alpine ski mountain, nordic ski trails, hiking trails, a fantastic spa (and pool), and tennis courts. The more exotic fare includes, falconry, bowling, ice skating, fly fishing, shooting (skeet, sporting clays, and more), and horse riding. As expected, the Homestead charges an extra fee for most of these activities, but they are all very well organized.
Most room prices include dinner and brunch. There are several restaurants that all offer something a little different. Evening dinner at the main dining room is a formal occasion where coat and tie is required and a band plays sleepy ballroom dance tunes. The food is mediocre at best and, given the number of people they feed every night, you have to question whether there is anything special about ordering the 300th or 500th steak of the night. The casino club is a more casual setting with food that better matches your expectations given the ambiance. The 1766 Grill has a surcharge, but foodies will want to pay the premium. The breakfast in the main dining room is an experience unto itself. The bountiful buffet makes it impossible to avoid gorging yourself - custom omlets and waffles, two rows of hot and cold food, piles of fresh fruit, fresh juice, and almost anything you can imagine.
Our room was nice, but a bit on the small side, especially the bathroom.
This is a very large hotel and it is very evident that you are one of hundreds of other guests, so if you are looking for a boutique experience, this is not it.
We have enjoyed our two visits to the Homestead and I would give it a 5/5 if the food were a bit better and not mass produced and it was a bit smaller.

I was fortunate to stay in a room on one of the renovated floors so it was nicely appointed, no smokey smell.
The rooms were affordable with the conference rate but otherwise I don't think I would go, as even the single rooms can reach upwards of 400-500 a night.
There are many resturaunts in the hotel with fairly good variety, but very expensive, and with the mealplan at over $70 a person per day (including breakfast buffet - good, and a dinner) it is a bit pricey. There are very few other places to eat nearby.
The golf courses (four of them) are supposed to be very nice, I didn't get to play, and the spa is loooked great and was average/high in price.
