The Dorset Inn boasts that it is Vermont's oldest continuously operating inn. It is a stately building that is beautiful and well taken care of. The staff was extremely friendly upon check-in.
Our room was on the third floor which I would avoid. The ceiling was so low that my husband almost hit his head. The room was tiny and had too much furniture in it- we had to place the rocking chair in the closet just so we could maneuver around the bed. The bathroom was in desperate need of an update. The fluorescent lights cast a dim yellow haze on the fake wood counters. It was actually pretty gross.
We did sneak a peak in some other rooms and they weren't that much larger but did have a reasonable ceiling height which made the room seem larger.
Although our room was a disappointment, we decided that this hotel did have one redeeming feature- The food. Upon our arrival we had a delicious lunch in the bar area which was very charming. We sat by the fire place and had a wonderful meal. The Dorset Inn is a B&B and the breakfast was unbelievable. I had the blueberry pancakes and my husband had a huge omelet. You could order anything off the menu and it was all included which was great.
If you are travelling to this part of Vermont, I would suggest staying in Manchester. Dorset seemed a bit out of the way and we found ourselves in Manchester most of the visit since there was little to do in Dorset.
