November 14 2007: The rooms at the Greenbrier are nicely done - very old fashioned taste (huge flowered wallpaper) but classic.  The rooms are a decent size, the closets nice, the bathrooms small-ish but clean and updated.

We ate very well virtually every meal, from the casual tavern to room service.  Hemisphere,  their 'international fusion' restaurant, was so-so...expensive for the quality of the food.  Perhaps WV should stick to comfort food.  Three wonderful bars to chose from.

The gym was outdated but all other activities great. We did a wonderful 4.5 mile hike from the back door of the hotel into the mountains, the tennis facility is fine. The pool looked lovely if only we'd been there in summer.  The bowling and other kid-friendly activities like jungle gym and movie theater were busy and nice.

A great idea for families with kids. Also appropriate for a romantic getaway. The weekend we were there, it was not overrun by corporate meetings  - they seem to keep that pretty separate.

This is the first review written about this hotelOctober 27 2007: The Greenbrier is a georgeous, large resort in the West Virginia mountains.  Right out of a movie.  Focus on courteous service ("Hello, Mr. Davis" ... "Thank you, Mrs. Davis").  Large dining room (very traditional and a little formal) with other cafes and restaurants.  Rooms are nice (not superb).  Also many new cottage/guest house options.  We would probably stay in one of the guest houses next time (given our party of 5).

Lots of activities and amenities through the resort as well as great hiking, fishing, rafting, shopping (antiques) nearby.  Lewisburg has a quaint main street.

Excellent fitness center and good activities and options for kids.  Great spa.

They try to do a good job with the food, but we felt like it was a little old school (and institutional).

It's convenient off of Interstate 64 if you're driving.  Decent seasonal jet service to Lewisburg.

A great resort for a family reunion or business group.
