November 5 2007: We had an incredible Spring Break stay with our two children here.  We could not have asked for a nicer, more relaxing place. All amenities are first class from the high end appliances in the kitchen to the fluffy down duvets on the beds. The pool is huge and impeccably clean and salt treated, no chlorine. There are plenty of umbrellas and comfy cushions. The dock is spotless and a great place to fish, clean off snorkel/dive gear, and be sure to bring a big flashlight to use at night to view all of the creatures living in the water. We saw tons of lobsters, horseshoe crab, baby nurse sharks and tiny barracuda. The staff kept everything wonderfully clean and we hardly ever saw them. We felt as though we were living in our own beach house. People complained on their sister property site that there was little privacy on the decks. I never felt that way. Most homes seemed to be rented when we were there and there was hardly anyone around during the day. There was also absolutely no “riff raff” here!

We rented a boat and spent an amazing day out on the water. You can rent a boat from many different locations on the island. I would shop around and be sure to book ahead. We rented from Captain Hook across the street and our experience was fair. They were reasonably priced and the boat was nice. They did give us a very hard time about a tiny ding in the fiberglass, which I am not convinced we caused.
We ate at Herbies and loved it! Get there early and you won’t have to wait, before 6. You can go grubby, no one cares. We also ate at the Cracked Conch and it was also good and the staff was very pleasant.

Kmart right by Publix has a fishing center if you forgot anything and the prices are reasonable for basic gear. Publix is very nice, but carries very few organic products.

You must go to Bahia Honda State Park. It is amazing, the best beach I have ever been to. If you go during a busy time be sure to arrive early (before 11) as they stop allowing day visitors when they begin to get crowded.

This was the best vacation my well-traveled family has had. We will be back!
